Advanced Mobility Equipment

Three Types of Medical Mobility Equipment Available In Australia

While most people like to believe that they can always get around on their own without assistance, the reality is that many people will need a medical mobility aid at some point in their lives. Fortunately, there is no shortage of medical mobility equipment for those who need it. In fact, it has evolved a lot over the years and is becoming more comfortable and convenient than in the past.

There are many types of disability and mobility equipment available and most can be tailored to individual needs. The following are some types of devices commonly used by persons with disabilities.

Wheelchair

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of medical mobility aids is a wheelchair, only wheelchairs are meant to be a substitute for walking. The simplest chairs have to be pushed manually by a second person or by the person sitting on the chair. Other models include an electric chair that is driven by an electric motor and manipulated by special navigation controls.

Scooter

Scooters are similar to powered wheelchairs in that they are driven and designed for people with limited mobility. The biggest difference between a scooter and a motorized wheelchair is the design.

Pedestrians and sticks

Those who are still relatively mobile and independent can usually move around easily with a good rollator or walking stick. They come in a variety of styles, colors, and sizes and, like other mobile devices, can be customized to meet individual needs.
